Litsa: 'cause you're saying microbes. Because I can't look at the chats or anything.

Okay.

So they can't hear me unless I do this. Now I can hear you. And okay. So let's just hope it works.

Okay. Cool. So, um, I'll go around and we'll do our little round Robin. Uh, Valerie's joining us Tuesday and Sunday, and then we'll do a round of introductions after that. And then, um, and then we'll go into a discussion. We haven't super figured out what our discussion. Of the week should be. Kat has a list.

You had to list. But I don't know which of the things. So maybe that's something.

Or that could be something you see. You sneakily discuss in the chat too. I don't know. Cat's on the hook for that. She'll figure it out by the time we get to that part.

Kim: All right, so, okay. For Monday. Uh, Kim, do you have any rides, you know of on Monday? Um, so I don't have any that are happening this Monday. I have a couple that normally. Um, and I mean, so I'll just mention those real quick. Um, so bike and Betty's usually has their rides on the first and third, Mondays of the month.

Um, they're switching it up this week though, and it's happening on Wednesday so we can cover that. Um, the thing I did want to mention is, um, if anyone knew any Philly, I did not know her, but, um, she was a very prominent figure in the cycling. I'm seeing. Uh, she did like early Thursday night, social rides and early.

Um, A lot of early critical mass rides, but she. Passed away. And there was a Morial for her today. I had a ride at 11, which we've missed. Um, but they have a Memorial for her at Liberty bar four o'clock. I think they knew her. Um, That's going to definitely be some, but no. There's a bike ride associated to it. She's just like a really.

Litsa: Gotcha. Okay. So 4:00 PM, August 15th, Liberty bar. Um, Calais. Did you have a Monday? Right. You're aware of. Um, Not for a night law, I guess on Mondays. Yeah. There's the bogey that leaves out of, um, Rafa and in the media. The Hopkins on, um, I didn't put it in the thing. But, um, That's a 6:00 PM. It's mixed trail. It's about 16 miles. It's a social ride. So it's not like super fast paced.

Um, and, uh, I guess there's folks that like, it ranges from like, I guess it was like one person or two people that will ride their rode bikes, but makes it a little bit more technical. We do that because there are some like trails spots. Um, And that's, um, that's happening tonight, but it happens every Monday.

So that's something that have ran into those guys last week. It looked fun. Yeah. I don't know, I'm actually going to see. It wasn't my first time. And so. Oh, awesome. I'm jealous. Um, also, uh, so by the time this episode is published, probably all of today's stuff will be gone. So I think it's worth mentioning, but then if you have stuff for next Monday too, that's actually good because it might be that listeners won't even be able to do anything with this information until next Monday.

So it's quite alright. Um, ideally this podcast would be on Sunday. For our recording would be.

Kat. What about you? Um, tonight is the breakfast club babes ride and it's every Monday is 6:00 PM from the meteor. Uh, we ride from the BD or across the lake to a mountain Bucknell and then come back through downtown. So. Um, it's a blast. It usually ends up averaging around 14 or 15 miles an hour.

But they do. It's not necessarily no drop, but they do regular regroups. And, uh, getting to the top of Mount Banella is a big deal. So every year, every time we make a, you know, big. Uh, you know, everybody takes pictures at the top and it's sort of fun. So. Definitely a ride. We're checking out.

Um, and that one is women non-binary only. Yeah. But the other end bike and Betty's was women's ride as well. But the buggy is co-ed. Right. Okay. And then. The night,

the babes ride. On Monday nights. Yes. At six. Oh, was there. On Wednesday before. They used to be. Last year. Okay. Yup. They had to change it. Okay. Let's just a little bit confused. Okay. Cool. Um, CA have you or anybody looked up, uh, where our leg is meeting tonight? Yes. Our leg is writing.

How do I scroll across?

Walnut Creek bunch. Part today. Okay. Did you happen to look up next week? Um, no. Okay. So our leg meets at what time? Six. Okay. It's been. Yeah. So our leg. Right. Like a girl is a woman's mountain biking group that meets every Monday night, but it's seasonal. So it's just going to be this summer.

Um, tonight August 15th or meeting at 6:00 PM at Walnut Creek metropolitan park. But next Monday, they're going to meet. Uh,

I don't know how to interpret that you tell me. That's August. So here's okay. So the 12th. 22nd in south Dick Nichols park. Okay. All right. So next Monday, August 22nd, they meet at Dick Nicole's park at 6:00 PM. It's women, and I believe non Brian Neary, like anyone, woman identifying, um, and it's.

It's, uh, it's quite a big group and they split by skill level. So it's good for everyone from beginner to advanced writers that want to chase each other around. All right. Let's move on to Tuesday, Valerie. You had a Tuesday for us, right? Yes, it looks like the north Austin social bicycling group meets up at about seven 30.

At bell Kaunas district park.

The special code community by grads sounds like they ride a few more miles than your normal social ride. I'm guessing probably like 16 to 20. Um, yeah, they have a Strava as well. I put the link. There and the chart.

Okay, sweet. Um, Calais. Do you know of a Tuesday ride?

Now. Kim. Um, yeah, so social cycling, Austin has two Tuesday evening rides this week. Um, so they have their normal. Southern Walnut Creek trail ride that happens every Tuesday from go ballpark. Um, it is a social ride that they do go at a faster pace. But they need a go vol. They ride the entirety of the Southern Walnut Creek trail, and then they stop at the end and chill.

Some people might have a beer if they have one with them or, um, a beverage of some sort. Um, they chill for like, you know, 20, 30 minutes, and then they ride the whole thing that, so just because it's a bunch of people all on the same trail, um, it's not. No drop, but it's like, you know, everybody's on the trail at the same time. So it's, it's a lot safer because you know,

There's people around you. Um, and they do a stop in. Kind of hang out and then I believe they usually end. With like tacos somewhere on the east side, like tacos and drinks on the east side. So it's like a real social thing. But, um, but because it's like the trail, you really have the flexibility to go at whatever speed you want.

Um, but I believe the trail is like 22 miles. So it stops and ends at, uh, go ballpark. Do you know what. Before you move on Kim D know what time someone should show up. Yeah, so they wheels down at set. Let me look at the thing and put in the spreadsheet and a seven 30. Yeah, they will sit down at seven 30.

And I believe they usually meet up a little bit before that, just to kind of hang out a little bit like 15, 20 minutes early. Okay. Um, then we also have the yoga ride. Which, um, kind of. Changes between Sundays and Tuesdays, depending on, um, the, the leader flexibility. This week it's meeting on Tuesday. Um, it always meets a Doug Sam hill at six 30.

Um, so that one is usually a five mile, like very beginner paced ride. Um, super chill ride followed by yoga. And then they, or I might be mixing up the order there. Um, there's always a five-mile ride in yoga and then they often end up free swim in the summertime. But I don't know if that's like a, all the thing all the time thing or just a, every now and then.

Um, but yeah, those are the two Tuesday, once I know that. Kat, can you have, I don't have a Tuesday, right? Um, and last time we had talked about Tuesday tear down, but we were unsure if that was still happening. And I don't think any of us looked it up between last week and this week. So.

I'm sorry. I guess I worked there. I spoke to you. Folk does. Tend to meet. Um, on the first Tuesday of the month, our schedule has been sort of different throughout the summer. Um, we're trying to get a fixed schedule, but we do. Tend to meet on Tuesdays. We're trying to do first Tuesdays. Cause that was our original schedule.

Um, so yeah, next week is a Wednesday for folksy folks, but look out for Tuesdays with 50 folks as well. Do you want to go ahead and talk about the spokes you feel. Right on Wednesday and who all would want to come to that? Uh, yeah. That sounds good. Um, so we usually do, you know, very beginner friendly, you know, bike path trails.

Um, Rives and especially during the summer, we're just taking it really easy. But this Wednesday, we're just going to start sort of easing into something we're hoping to grow, which is having more intermediate rides. And do a ride. Um, so I'm really excited about that next Wednesday. Uh, we're going to have a LoRa.

Um, Gleevec. Covena from ride now. Yeah. Carbon new. However now. Yeah. Um, Help us out with that come out and kind of just give the, just on riding up a hill and riding down the hill and, you know, some essential. Um, I guess. Knowledge for doing that. I'm, you know, Very very unfamiliar with that, but I'm really excited. I've been wanting to do that. I heard cat talking about that.

MI or the Bates ride and it reminds me, so I want to chat with you more about, about the no rides. Okay.

So, yeah. One good folky folks. And then Valerie, by next week, do you mean the 17th? Or do you mean truly. For the 24th. Okay. So this Wednesday, there isn't any But next Wednesday, there's that? Um, like new to new to writing intermediate level. Is is spoke. See folks, um, like w and B are co-ed or.

Does it matter? W and the B I'm trans woman, non binary. Okay. Gotcha. Yeah. Alright, sweet. Any, uh, Calais. Do you have a Wednesday? I do not. Okay. And then Kim. I do actually. So it's not, um, sta or it's not social cycling Austin, but it's the 5 1, 2 wheelie crew. Has there, um, There Wednesday. I think it's just called wheelie Wednesdays, but they, um, they meet at Hemphill park.

Um, they do. So it's a social ride and it's, it's mostly like those BMX cruiser bikes, and it's a lot of guys doing wheelies. And stuff. But they are super open to like anybody coming out. In fact, I go on it on my like road and I don't know, whatever kind of bike do you want to call my bike? Um, but there's people on all kinds of bikes. Um, you just have to be.

Comfortable with some shenanigans. Um, but they're all. Super safe. Those guys do those tricks so often I've actually, it's actually one of the rides where I've seen the least amount of wrecks. Like it's kind of crazy. Um, but it's a lot of a wide age group. In fact, there's even some kids. So there's like parents that bring their kids out. Um,

It's a little faster than your normal social ride. I mean, I get a pretty good workout on it. And they usually hit about 15 to 20 miles. Um, they're usually like fairly, no drop. Like if you have a mechanical, they stop. Um, but if you're having trouble keeping up. I'm not sure if they're going to like slow down.

Anything. Um, But yeah, there are a lot of fun. I actually go on them pretty often. They're they're really welcoming. That's awesome, Amy. At Hemphill park. Um, usually meet at like 6 30, 6 45 with they say wheels up. Cause that's the thing.

Ah, I've seen them right around town and I've always wondered. So I'm glad you like demystified that for me. Uh, it makes me want to get a bike like that. Um, I know I'm not even going to try to do.

And I'll cheer them on. And Kat, what about you? Um, for Wednesdays, there's a ride with the Rafa cycling club. It's a ladies only. Uh, morning ride. They ride at 7:00 AM from Rafa and it's a Hills ride. So not only is it Hills it's fast. So they average 16 miles an hour. It's a drop ride. But, um, if you are looking for.

A quick wake up on a Wednesday morning. That should do it. Uh, I know that the riders that lead those rides are really good. They're very supportive and they want, you know, writers say. Can, um, No, they want to support folks that can do those sorts of rides. So, um, definitely check that one out.

Alrighty. And then I know we got stuffed Thursday Calais. Do you want to kick us off? Sure I can. I mean, Well, of course, Thursday is early bird special and that's what cat. So, um, I kind of want to let Kat kind of describe that because it's her ride. Okay. But yeah, it's a team snacks ride for sure. But Kat is definitely the.

The leader on that one. Yeah. So, uh, the team snacks early bird is a Thursday. Seven 30 rhyme from cycle east down on Cesar Chavez. And we ride it's, um, it's a fairly flat course, 16 miles. We go from Cesar Chavez from cyclist over to one a Creek park. Go up to the YMCA. You can come across and come back down in Cherrywood and through boggy boggy Creek.

Right.

And, uh, it takes about an hour and a half. Usually we're done or a little right around nine, and then we can have coffee and kolaches and tacos at flat track coffee. And it's a. It is a blast. It's not a hard ride. We average about 13 miles an hour. It's completely no drop. So if you have a problem,

You won't get left behind and it's just so much fun. And I've been doing it since, uh, January when it was 30 degrees. And now it's. Yeah, a thousand degrees and. Um, it's fun every single time. So, um, definitely check that one out. Um, you just, um, on your calendar for your boss, you just say working elsewhere.

And we promise we'll talk about work a little bit. On the call. And then

Chelsea, Chelsea often Chelsea, the snacks vice president she's very often is also an attendance and helps with like sweet. On that ride. And, um, also covers leadership for when cat. I'm. Has to be out. But yeah, it is a lot of fun. It's a, it's a really great ride. Yeah. Calais. Was there anything else you knew of on Thursday?

Uh, I don't think so. Oh, just to add the early bird special is an outliers ride, so it's open to anybody. Okay. Okay. Co-ed team snacks ride, which is nice because I know like ti. The early bird ride is a pretty easy ride, but it is a road ride as opposed to a social cycling ride where you're on, maybe on your commuter bikes, this is more oriented to people that wanted, like get comfortable with their road bikes.

Um, but it is beginner immediate, and I know that there's a lot of. Uh, like men that are interested in road riding and looking for their way in as well. And so the early bird special is if it's an allies ride, then it kind of creates that opportunity. Um, okay. Kim, there's definitely social cycling.

On Thursdays. Yeah, we have our, um, so yeah, social cycling Austin has the Thursday night social ride. And that's a really big ride that has been going on since 2009. It's um, The writer count is pretty large. It's usually like 200 plus folks. Um, every week. Um, so we always need at the same spot.

It's the west end of festival beach. So like that's what beaches. This kind of long park that goes all the way. Eastward. Um, but it's the west end where the park, um, butts up against.

um, so we always meet at that spot. Um, the address is 1201 Nash Hernandez, Sr road, I think road or drive. Um, But yeah, if you look up that address, it takes you to that spot. Uh, so we meet at seven 30 with wheels down. I don't know, they say eight, 15. It's a little later than that. Um, we're social.

But, uh, it's usually about 10 miles with a park stop at about mile six ish. Um, and super social again, you know, like eight to 10 miles an hour. Sometimes it gets going a little faster. Um, There are some, usually the route is pretty easy. Uh, we do have some, you know, that had south, which always means Hills and Austin.

Um, So it's really good to just check the invite because we always tell you exactly where the end point is or the midpoint and the end point. Um, so you can kind of gauge, like, if you're a really beginner, you can engage on that. Um, you know, if we're, if our, our mid point is way south and you know, we're going to do some Hills.

Um, but yeah, so it. Mids at a park and then usually ends either at a bar or a park. It's just kind of up to the, the leader. Um, but the leaders always different routes, always different, but we always need at the same spot at the beginning. Awesome. I don't know if there's a plan this week just yet, but yeah. So if you just follow.

Um, social cycling, I think like by tomorrow we'll probably be posting what all the planets. Is that right? Considered like adults only since. Has. I mean. There's some adult activities that might happen around. Um, but I certainly see a lot of kids, like not a lot, some kids on it. In fact, Um, over the years, there's a couple of folks that brought their kids and I literally watched these kids grow up on the Thursday ride.

From age. You know, eight and now they're like 20.

Um, there's definitely some kids. In fact, there's actually another guy that brings his son out. I noticed, and he's probably like 11 or 12. Okay. Um, oh, one other thing. And I don't have a lot of details on it, but I know that the cap Tech's cruisers also meet on Thursday night. Um, I believe they made it Ramsey park. I have no idea what time.

Um, I would assume somewhere between six and seven and eight, something like that. Um, They have a pretty strict. Very actually very strict. Um, one speed BMX cruiser bikes, only rule. Um, so if you, if that's, you. You might want to research. Um, cap Tech's cruisers. I know they do. A lot more miles in your wreck. Um, your average social ride, I would assume something like 20.

Guessing from some of these folks like Strava is when I see them from Thursday night. Um, And they probably go fairly fast, but, um, But yeah, cap Tech's cruisers and that happens every Thursday to.

There's um, Also like the Thursday throat throw down from night owl racing that leaves out of cycle east. But I would have to look up the information for that, but for people seeking like a hard. Uh, like maintain your fitness roadie you ride. Looking into the Thursday, Throwdown would be a good idea.

Alrighty, that brings us to Friday, back to Calais again. Uh, I don't have anything for. This coming Friday. I know next Friday is a critical mass, but. Um, can you talk about that next week? Okay. Um, cat. Um, this Friday. Uh, is a nice gravel ride with the breakfast club, gravel gang. Um, not necessarily a, um, women or trans only ride it's open to everyone, but it I'm one of the leaders. So if you're there, you'll be in good company.

Um, like gravel writing is my favorite thing to do. It is so much fun. Um, if you want to do it and you have a gravel bike, you just need a good light. And, um, You're going to need to be able to take care of yourself because it's dark.

But, um, it just adds a whole different level to, to gravel riding that, um, I just recently learned about, so I'm really looking forward to it. If people wanted to do it. How did, where do they go? Time, all that right now. They're, they're still finalizing the plan for this. Week's uh, they think it's going to be in page, but as far as the time and exact location, it hasn't been set yet.

We can follow breakfast club and their slack, or hit them up on Instagram. And get all the information. Okay. Um, Kim Friday. I got nothing. Wow.

Um, Yeah, next Friday, critical mass from the Lamar Pflueger at bridge, but it's. How many, how many writers show up for critical mass? Well, we we've only had the, so this is kind of like the, what we're calling like the O G resurgence of critical mass, which started. Um, this was kind of a lot of the same folks that were doing critical mass years and years and years ago.

But we've only had this first one. Um, from the Pflueger pedestrian bridge, but I think we had about 300 people. I mean, at least he was like two 50 to three. It's so hard to tell when that many people are in a. Yeah. One place. But when we rolled out from the bridge, I feel like it was about 300. I mean, people kind of.

Petered off, like once we started going through downtown and going around and stuff, but, um, but yeah, it was pretty big. It was pretty cool. So. Is that the same as the O G where kind of the objective is to disrupt traffic. Or have they altered that? Yes. Yes. But we're still assuming our mentality is like,

If we get up to a stoplight and downtown, and it's already red, we're probably gonna haul the ride and use that as a, you know, Use that as like a weekly mass. Last up a little. Um, but if the ride starts falling through a light. And the light turns red while the ride's going through. They're probably just going to keep on going.

I mean, it's been 15 years since critical mass kind of died out. So now all the OGs are just, oh, for old. You came out of dusted off their bikes.

Um, but it wasn't a lot of fun. I went and I. I never, in fact, when I first started riding a bike back in 2009, I was only doing like. Very, you know, social rides where we followed all the laws and this was kind of one of my first, like, Let's just, let's just do, um, I never got, I never felt like I was unsafe or I never, and in fact, I don't.

We didn't really have any. Car, you know, Like I had one argument with one lady that was kind of trying to push through at some point. But other than that, like, It was all happiness. Like we were all just happy to be on our bikes. And ride. There were some funny, uh, there was a guy. No way. That picked up.

Uh, couch on his, like e-bike you might see some wow. This here and there of a guy with a couch. It was, uh, it was hilarious. Wow. Wow really hilarious. He ended up bringing the couch up to the top. Of Doug Sam hill, where they then proceeded to sit on it.

I love that. It was right. We could have that on every single ride. And it would be kind of cool. Who doesn't want to count. Wow. Well, I'm not quite the same level of party, but there is the Austin coffee ride. Um, they're on Instagram. They meet up. I think they leave from go volley park every Friday morning at 7:00 AM. Do we have them in here?

I didn't put them on. I totally meant to add that and I completely forgot. So I'll, uh, pull it up here. Caffeine. It's a Saturday. Okay. Well, um, like if I, if I'm incorrect about any of the details, please correct me, but I'm pretty sure they made it go volley every Friday morning. They leave at 7:00 AM and then.

The ride leader just takes them to a different coffee shop every morning. And it's kind of like early bird special. It's a co-ed ride and they just try to wrap it up by nine so everyone can get to work. Okay. Sad or de. Calais. Do you have a Saturday? I do not. Cat. I don't have a Saturday. I know. Well, I know that there's Saturday rides that were aware of.

So let's have. I'm leading. Let's have Kim go and then we'll like, just brainstorm over. Can. Yeah. So every Saturday, um, Central cycling. Austin has the Saturday morning caffeine crews. Um, and it's called the caffeine. But it's, it's really just barely morning enough to still call it. Um, so they meet at 10 30. They wheels down at 1130.

Fairly in the am. Um, they always start at a different spot. They always med at a different spot. They always ended a different spot. It's really just rider or a leader's choice. Um, this particular week, I am leading it. And I think. If plans don't change, I haven't made the invite yet, but my plan is I'm probably going to start at food heads on 30.

Second. I think. Um, and then there's this hip hop festival ever. Public square park. That we're going to try to hit up at the halfway point. Um, and somewhere in there, because it's so hot, we're going to hit up either a splash pad or pool. I don't know where yet. And then I'm probably going to end a crown and anchor, but that ride is typically 10 miles typically, pretty beginner friendly.

Um, typically pretty slow. Uh, just because it's so hot right now, we're really trying to like, keep the mileage and the speed down. Um, it's no drop for sure. Usually mostly road. We might hit up like hike and bike trail, like fine gravel, but nothing that like a road bike probably can handle. Um,

So that's this Saturday. Um, well, so you already said where you're having people you're meeting at food heads at 1130. Yeah. Yeah. So breakfast and coffee. Um, 10 30 to 1130 wheels down at 1130. The Saturday morning, caffeine cruise is the thing to do. If you woke up late and you don't know how to spend your Saturday.

Just let those guys. Yes. That's your Saturday. Amazing. Typically the thing is it's we wheels down at 1130, but people end up hanging out. I mean, I've not gone home until 2:00 AM. Like, you know, just from. Content not riding. The ride, but you know, like, We go have some lunch and drinks after the ride, then we go hit up, you know, some music. Then we go to swim. Then we like a lot of times it just, the day, wherever the tape day takes us.

It's joined the catalog cruise for a blessed life. Well in a lot of people, well, not a lot, but some people go to the caffeine crews after their roadie bride or their mountain bike ride. So. In Austin, the competitive cyclists tend to do all their rides in the early morning to try to beat the heat because they're working really hard. So.

Um, Did anyone look up if phenom is active? Because that would be one such right. Yeah, I haven't heard that they're doing anything. I think because it's been really hot. Um, That they kind of not been like super active. I also think there's like a ride leader kind of situation going on. Okay. So while there used to be that there used to be like the middle of the road ride out of a mellow Johnny's w we're going to have to just look up for next week. What all roadie rides or fast mountain bike rides. There might be Saturday morning, but I know we know of things happening Sunday. So without further ado, Calais.

Sure thing. Okay. So. You've got, um,

So, um, Let's see, let's start with the, the earliest thing. Um, So the Rafa woman's 100 is coming up. So there's, um, several clubs around town or are hosting training rides. And this coming Sunday, there is a training ride with a Spanish street. And. Uh, there'll be leaving from, uh, the DG coffee on Springdale. And they're meeting up at 7:00 AM. Rolling at seven 30.

And this is a training ride. So it's probably like about intermediate, I would say, um, you are looking at like an intermediate pay. So I would say that they're probably going to try to have her somewhere between like 14 is 16 miles per hour. If they can. Um, And they're going out to new Sweden. And the, um, part of the dogs.

The mileage for that. Um, Oh, shoot. I didn't write down what the mileage was. 60 miles. The miles. Yeah. It's about 60 or so, and it's definitely a road ride, but it's training. So it's like, it's pretty cool. There's um, there's likely going to be some regrouping and things like that to help folks catch up.

And, um, because it's, I Rafa ride, they do ask, um, Uh, minimum requirements in terms of like being of preparedness. So obviously they want your bike to be in good shape. They ask for clipless pedals and shoes. Um, two water bottles. Minimum and a helmet and obviously like flat repair kit is, um, on point.

But, um, it's a good supportive group of people. This is open to women. And non-binary people, um, And it's just like training to like, get ready for that, that big ride. And, um, so that'll, that'll, that'll be fine if you're really looking to like up here. Uh, road ride gain. Besides that team's snacks has a couple of things coming up on Sunday.

Um, we're doing a slowly roll with Carrie. Um, this is a road ride. It's. Um, It is like, it's kind of social. If nobody knows what a slow your roll is, it's where we pay sat about 12 miles per hour. Um, The. There is a social aspect too, and that we have a snack stop or we like hanging out. During the ride, there is a focus on like, um, basically just like developing road skills for, um, beginner to intermediate riders and, um,

Uh, you can, um, bring your, you know, bring your own water, make sure you have a helmet. Flat kit, things like that. Uh, it is a lot of fun. Um, you get to meet a lot of different people. It's open to anyone, not just club members, but anyone. Um, that identifies as like woman or non-binary. Um, And I don't know where the snacks off is, and it'll probably be about 10 miles. So it's definitely doable. If someone is like novice rider, trying to like.

Start to like, make that way towards intermediate. Um, and you learn a lot along the way, but it's fun. It's a good ride. So Sloan girl on Sunday. Um, and then if you just can't get enough of team snacks, we're also doing the slaughter Creek hot laps. Um, which is mountain bike. 6:00 PM. So it's. Blazing hot.

But, um, it's hot wipes, not just because it's hot outside, but because the slaughter Creek trail is a loop, it's a five mile loop and it's, um, Oh, I forgot on the slowly roll. Um, it's going to be, uh, wheels down at eight, sorry. And there'll be a cycle east my bad, but that's in the thingy. To, um, but the.

Uh, slaughter Creek. Uh, when we get six at slaughter Creek trail, that's off of FM 1826. And, um, the part does have gates that close automatically, um, at dusk. So, uh, we try to get in as many loops as we feel like we can do often lately, because it's been so hot, it doesn't usually exceed two loops, uh, two laps around the loop.

Um, but it's a lot of fun and we kind of will like stop in between and like chit-chat, or just hanging out for a little bit while we watched the sun go down and then. Um, maybe have a few snacks and drinks. But it's it. There's the features in the trail. Range from what I would say, our novice. Most LA a lot of novice stuff to intermediate like upper intermediate mountain biking.

Um, but the cool thing is, is that because it's a loop you can like hop in. You know, at any point you're never gonna lose anybody. Um, and there's also a cut-through. So if someone was like, um, I don't feel like I can go the full cause five miles on a mountain bike is totally different. Right. So you can cut through and kind of cut the trail in half through the shortcut, but it, but it is a good time. And it's also a good way to like, learn how to get better at mountain biking, because you have other people that are going to be.

Um, You know, like upper intermediate that you can follow their line. And kind of figure it out. I love it. It's also the ride to be. Uh, if you really want snacks as part of teams, We'll be snacks. So remind just really quickly remind us w. Uh, where people go at what time? On Sunday? Slaughter Creek trail it's off FM 1826.

Um, so it's like 9, 9 0 1 FM 1826. And then the time 6:00 PM. And that's, it's kind of a soft. You know, kind of time just because, because it is a loop you can just hop in and you'll eventually run into somebody. But if you want to start out with the group, usually we meet at six and then I'll give everybody about 15 minutes to show up. And then we like try to start rolling at six, 15.

Um, as a group, if you're wanting to like start, if you want to follow someone's line. And then I, uh, or, um, Ryder wise is this. Coed just w and be allies, like what. Who can come. So this upcoming one is going to be a women non-binary. Kind of situation. Yeah. Okay. But that varies. So, and the location will probably vary too, but.

The park is open. So you could just show up.

We're not offering any of that, but you. Really So

that's next. You want snack? Kat, did you have anything to add to Sunday, maybe competitive stuff. I have right on Sunday. Okay. Let's hear it. Sunday is the Austin gravel, collective Martindale, rip and grip. Grip ripping dip. Um, or grit grip, um, it's in Martindale, uh, which is just down by St. Marcos, just east of there. And it's going to be about 25 miles of gravel.

And the best part about this ride is that it ends at the San Marcus river. So we jump in in our kits and just cool off in the river. It's amazing. It's nice and cool. And, um, free parking right there. There's plenty of room and the, the route is amazing. So lots of gravel, lightly traveled roads. Yes.

What's the name of the park. And what time do people meet you then? I don't know the name of the park, but it's Martindale. Texas. He said go to the city. Tiny little town. Um, follow us on Instagram, follow, follow Austin and grab, uh, Austin graveled collective on Instagram. We're going to have all the details before the end of the week.

But yeah, there aren't that many parks to choose from at Martindale is like one of those ones. Towns. Yeah. And you'll see it. You'll see a bunch of cars. You'll see a bunch of cyclists for the sketchy bikers. Yeah, there you go. And the, and that's everybody. Right? Right. Everybody that can hang.

Dino the miles per hour. And if it's truly average 13, 14, it's it's officially no drop because we lead from the back. So if you're with me, You are on the ride. If you have the route and you want to go fast, you're more than welcome to do your own speed. But we don't leave anyone behind on the route. It's um, it's.

The pace of the slowest writer. Yeah, and, and this one's kind of like rasa in that it's like, bring your flat kit. Bring clips like there's there's no Uber. On gravel roads. So, um, the, the, the thing I can recommend is we've had a lot of trouble with folks with tubes. And if you can get tubeless tires,

It makes a huge difference. It's uh, It's uh, we get so many flats with people with tubes. So that's my only suggestion. And plenty of water, cause it's going to be hot. All right. Uh, did you have another? No. Okay. So Kim, how many miles is that? It's it's around about 25 miles. 25. I'm sorry. And my friend Kim you're at.

Sure. Um, okay. So. Um, We have. Okay, so social cycling, Austin has the Sunday bike curious ride. So that is a, like usually 10 to 15 mile ride, social ride again. Um, It meets at Browning hangar and Mueller and, um, I usually end close to where they start so starts and ends and Mueller. Um, but yeah, that's no drop. They meet at six 30 roll at 7:00 PM.

Um, Then let's see the other ones I know about, um, the 5 1, 2 wheelie crew. They meet again on Sundays. Um, they usually meet at 11:00 AM, but they've been meeting at 7:00 PM because it's been so hot. Um, They again, meet at him hell park. And it's pretty much the same deals. The other one really is. And.

And stuff like that. Um, But, uh, let's see, then I actually just read about one. I've been following this, um, sweat house, like Instagram. So I don't really have a lot of details on it, but I just wrote it down. Um, Austin Ridge writers meets at Walnut Creek metropolitan park at 9:30 AM. Um, it sounds like they have three kind of options. So they have a fast level, which is 12 to 16 miles and intermediate level, which is eight to 12 miles. And then a beginner level, which is six to eight miles.

Um, And I don't know. More details than that. Yeah. I can't believe we thanks for bringing that up. Us. Not even bikers. Totally forgot. And it's like totally classic too. Yeah. The Austin Ridge writers are probably the main mountain biking organization in Austin and they maintain that Walnut Creek metropolitan trail there, um, that 9:30 PM or am on Sunday meetup.

At Walnut Creek, uh, they, they meet by the parking lot that is adjacent to the swimming pool and it's about 50 riders most weeks. So there's, each of those groups is plenty big and you just kind of decide for yourself, which group you feel like you can hang with.

Yeah. And I was going to mention, um, There was a rhino totally left out for Wednesday. So when we're done, if we could swing back. I totally it's slipped my mind. Well, let's get Valerie Sunday in.

Oh, you made it.

Oh, yeah. And. And meet yourself.

There we go. Yeah.

Uh, so Sunday cruise ATX been going on for six years. Or on the socials. Uh, we don't have our details up for this Sunday, the specifics, but we usually meet at Plaza, LTO, sculpture park, or Mueller, more and more. We're starting to meet there. I really liked that. I think we're going to meet up Mueller this week. So stay tuned for the details on the socials. Um, but it's a very show, relaxed pace.

Um, we have regularly had kids come out. Um, mutually about. Eight to nine years old and up. Um, very, very relaxed chill. Pace. Um, visiting fun, free stuff in Austin. We're having our six year anniversary next month. Super-stoked.

What, what time would we meet you over there at Mueller? And what part of Mueller do y'all meet at? Oh, you said the hanger, right? Yeah, we meet up at, we try to roll out from our start spots at 1230. Uh, 1235 ish. Um, we're kind of lacking. It was the other one. Do you guys need at the hanger too?

Oh, sorry. Are you talking to me? Yeah.

Uh, yeah, we have that by the food trucks and the hanger before. Um, we've also started from it's a little bit. Broach park next to the farmer's market. We also have started from there as well. There's this cute, like having stand there in the park, it's such a nice little park area. Um, so yeah, those are kind of the two spots that we have started from, but we definitely give all the details probably by Wednesday or Thursday, we'll post.

Okay. Gotcha. I love the Sunday ride. It's always a fun time. Okay, well, um, Kim, you had that Wednesday one, you wanted to circle back to. Sure. Yeah. And the reason I forgotten about it is, um, So bike and Betty's normally meets on the first and third Mondays of the month. Um, so they would have been meeting today. Um, but they're changing it up this week and they're meeting on Wednesday at shape park.

Um, and they're doing a little bit of a different thing. Usually it's like the 10 kind of the, you know, like the rest of the social cycling Austin rides, like it's, it's usually about 10 miles at a central pace. Um, but this week they're doing a special thing. So they're, um, meeting at Shipe. Part with the idea that people could swim from six to six 30. I think if they want.

And then they'll have just a short five mile ride this week. Followed by a, um, gear bite gear slash clothing swap at the end. Cool. Um, and again, Viking Betty's is open to women. Trans non-binary. Um, But, yeah, so that's a different thing. This, this week is, um, a ride and a gear swap at the end.

And that's on Wednesday. Let me make sure I'm right about that 6:00 PM. I believe they usually need around six 30. Yeah, 6:00 PM this week. Gotcha. That sounds awesome. I'm glad you thought of that. Yeah. Well, so now that we've kind of listed all the rides, I'd like to do a round of introductions. And then, um, how are you guys doing on time? We've already.

We've been on the call for 48 minutes. Are you all able to go to the top of the hour or do you need to kind of do introductions then? Jet? I'm all yours, whatever. You've got me for another half hour. If you need it. Okay. And then Valerie, how are you? I'm good. Okay, sweet. Well, um, so I guess. Let's do, I'm kind of looking at how I'm seeing everyone on the screen. So I'll introduce myself and we'll just go clockwise. So it'd be me. Kat Kim, Valerie clay.

So, um, my name's Litesa, I am a member of organizations, but I don't, I'm not like a board member of any, however I do on dear diary, coffee, and we are a sponsor of the violet crown women's team and team snacks. And I bride mountain road and gravel. And I commute. Okay, Kat. Um, cat steel. Um, I ride.

Gravel Roan mountain. Around the yard. Wherever I can. Uh, skid in the driveway. Um, But I lead rides for team stacks. We breakfast club. Gravel collective. And I just try to get out as many miles as I can a week and just be out there and having fun on two wheels. Kim. Um, hi, my name's Kim. Uh, so I have been riding bikes only since like 2009 ish.

Um, But I'm pretty much like all social writer. Like in fact, I don't even own any like special bike peer apparel or any, anything. Um, But yeah. Uh, I am one of the, um, organizers for social cycling, Austin. Um, um, I also lead a good bit of rides for them, and then I do their Instagram. You mentioned a hundred percent.

Which is like a part-time job. I don't get paid for. Um,

yeah. But, um, yeah, so that's pretty much it, but yeah, social cycling. In fact, I only, um, I only own one bike, um, uh, I'm aspiring to get into mountain biking at some point. Oh, well, you're in amongst good company.

So I'm pretty sure I would.

Nice. Sweet. Valerie. Hey, my name's Valerie. I use she, her pronouns. Just FYI. Um, I, um, the, uh, founder organizer for Sunday cruise ETX whereas my partner, Jordan. And I'm also doing other stuff like spokes you folks, founder. Um, and I also founded bike story night. Um, I'm super excited about a spoiler it's coming back next month.

Um, And I also want you to just mention, um, I want to start something new. Because, you know, have five fingers. So why not? Um, I want to start something called bikes, camera homeys, because I love photography. It's sort of what, like really, really is my true passion. I'm like heart and soul and you know, anything I do sort of like will reflect that, you know, and I've had the opportunity with biking.

To capture and document, and that's been really fun and that's kind of how bike story that happened. And now I realized that I want more from cycling and I want to connect with people similar with similar interests. Um, more specifically. And that's, uh, people who love photography. So I had one get together and it was really small and fun, but I'm hoping to make it a monthly thing. So stay tuned.

On my personal socials. Varu creative VAR you. Um, and yeah, just keep an eye out. I think on my socials, you can kind of conduct with. Like story. And I spoke to you folks, Sunday, crews. Um, I hope that covers enough of the details on, on what's the hops, especially, I feel like us. It's Foxy folks. Didn't have a ride this week. Um,

I'm happy to talk about that. Um, Really excited to be getting folks on, on bikes. Um, yeah, I'm happy to help anytime. Yeah. Well, definitely. Uh, like all of y'all please come back. We plan to do this every week, so you'll have opportunities to, um, plug whatever rights and we also want to improve upon the format. So we'll iterate and make it better and better every week.

Um, and then Calais. Last, but certainly not least. Sure. Uh, uncle a Morgan. Um, I, she, he, they pronouns and I'm the president of the team snacks. And, um, I spent a lot of time, um, organizing and helping that out alongside the snacks board and our dedicated ride leaders, such as cat. And, um, Uh, I mean, I like mountain biking. I think the best out of all of the cycling, just cause it's like pure.

Pure fun. There's like really no point to it other than having a good spot. Um, uh, but I do, uh, I do ride and other, you know, uh, disciplines as well. I do ride riding, um, for the team. Um, I say that because I'm not a roadie, I, if I'm rewriting it's because I'm doing it for the team. But, um, I like, uh, exploring, you know, dirt and gravel roads and like interesting like urban features and things like that.

I like bike touring and bike camping a lot. Um, But I'm, uh, currently working on. So it's funny. Cause I grew up on these like really shitty, um, dirt and gravel roads out in the country and nobody liked those roads back then. I didn't like those roads biking on those roads, but now it's just ha ha thing.

And so I'm. Um, getting the, um, uh, one of my mini bikes, um, geared up for gravel riding. So that way I can participate more in that dirty dusty thing that we call. Uh, Gravel. Right. It didn't used to be that. It just used to be like, I don't know, backwards, like. You know, Gravel road riding. And it's interesting, like dirt.

The way to get to your friend's house. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Um, so that's a lot of fun. Um, I have done like competitive, um, like racing and stuff like that, but that quickly found that, um, I don't really. I'm super competitive and I think I'm so competitive to that. Uh, I was really irritated with, um, being at the bottom and like seeing how, like the like, cause you have to start out as the categories that go up being at the bottom and seeing how like the people at the bottom kind of get, um, kind of like.

Just thrown in with like, oh, the light. I felt like leftovers of like people and not trying to like crap on anybody, but it was like, it's hard to do like, uh, 'cause I did mountain bike racing and it's hard to like really kind of feel like you can get anywhere. Um, whenever you're like fighting for.

Um, Top spot. Among, like all these other different groups, writing groups and age groups and like, um, uh, levels and stuff like that. So I have dabbled in, in competitive, but I tend to be pretty social or purpose driven when it comes to my cycling. Like what I, what I need, like, and stuff like that.

As well as like trail building and things like that, anything that's like spooky and in the woods. And digging. I love it. Um, and yeah, that's, I guess that's, that's pretty much, I mean, I, I participate in other, other things too. Like I help with the hill country ride for aids. I. Um, team captain for project transitions in the hill country raids.

Ah, ha for the past several years. Um, Then on production team for the ACR. But I probably won't be doing that next year. I'm trying to focus a lot on team snacks and, um, you know, the pandemic was really, really hard on the club. And so I'm trying to do my part to try to like, I bring that up. And some of the rides that we, you know, have, or obviously the slow, your roll, and then the flutter Creek hot laps, which is mountain bike, but we're going to be expanding that to other life, mountain biking things.

And, um, we're looking at maybe getting like nighttime ride going. I've started the, um, riding rainbows series, which is so hot right now. Like, uh, I feel bad, like trying to force anybody to go do cool things. Um, Uh, the hot times, but there'll be more of that. And, um, I've had kind of like a semi.

Um, Non-committed like book. Love reading kind of thing in the positive. And we live by somewhere and we like read stuff to each other. It's super fun and dorky. I love it. Um, but I'm probably going to bring that back. Um, Eat my dust cover is.

It's like basically anything for a pun. Yeah, I love puns.

And, um, and yeah, so that's. We've got, uh, Other cool things coming up too. It seems snack. So if you want to keep up with us. Or on Instagram and, um, slack, especially. So you can find team snacks cycling. On slack and you can go to the team snacks, cycling.com and find, um, upcoming events on our calendar.

Page there. Valerie. I'm trying to, um, generate stories for you. I, uh, dear diary has a short story contest and I made the theme bikes intentionally. Um, that way people who write short stories for that contest about bikes can come to your bike story night and.

Yeah, participate. Like you'll have more readers. And, um, I'm giving away two passes to the Austin film festival in October to the winner of the bike story. Contest. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, fiction non-fiction stories. It doesn't matter as long as it's short. Okay. Okay. Yeah.

All right. Well, so we have 30 seconds to. Talk to the hour. Um, we can still answer the question of the week though. Cause it sounds like everyone has a little bit of time. Why don't we, why don't we do it? And then, um, if in editing in post. You, if you find some room to like, Consolidate. Yeah, we can fit it in.

I'm not worried about keeping this short so much as not using a peoples. Okay. At work time, you're getting a weird blur from your arm. Okay. So what is this question? At the weekend. So my question of the week is for you all because you organize rides. Thinking of a person who may be new to town or new to biking and doesn't know necessarily how to find out about rides.

Um, is there any way you all tend to broadcast your events? Um, And is there, do you have any ideas for what we could do better to help? People find out about all these different groups, because look at. Uh, even in the discussion that we've had, there's groups that we don't know what rights they have, because I don't know how to find them.

So I'm just going to open up to the floor. Anyone wants to, uh, to chime in. But so besides this podcast where other ways. It's like, are you trying to fire us?

Um, sta social cycling Austin. We do tend to share a lot, like a lot of rides get shared there, but it. It's like social stuff, like definitely a lot of social stuff. I mean, I see some other things posted there from time to time, but most of what gets posted there as, you know, social rights. Um, But I, I try to share a lot of stuff that I see. Um, I share probably more on there.

Instagram than anything else. Um, social cycling, Austin. And then, um, bike and Betty's has an Instagram, it's just bike, bike, and Betty's without the G. Um, and there, I try to share any stuff that comes my way, um, kind of social. Women trans non binary stuff. I try to share there, but. It is a challenge. I mean,

Really. There's some, I've seen people make efforts to like do a one size fits all, like everything, bicycles and. It's like, it's just, they're not usually very well-maintained. Um, the problem I've been trying with. And then. So those things, yes. When I. Sometimes after a ride, I'll post it to on Reddit, the bike ATX subreddit.

And I think I was, sometimes I've gotten people who say, how, how do I find out about these rides? Yeah. Oh, They're hard to like organize through there. Yeah. And that, that, that critical mass group, that critical mass we were talking about, they have a, I have an Instagram too, but if, of course.

You're just going to see critical. That's fair. Yeah. It's like finding all the Instagrams for the various clubs. But then the question is how do you learn who the clubs even are to go hunt them down? Right. Yeah. I'll say, um, I am always encouraging folks to go to. They're a local bike shop and find a bike shop that they love.

Um, especially as a bike shop, has coffee, um, or sex or anything like that. Um, because I feel like. There are so knowledgeable and everything bikes, and they also are knowledgeable in group eyes. You know, most likely they're going on group rides. They know someone who's going on, group rides. Um, I'm noticing more, uh,

Uh, shops have community boards, which is amazing. Awesome. And that's really helpful and just like word of mouth, but, um, yeah. I just encourage people to go to your bike shop, local bike shop and ask a few questions. Like don't be hesitant. I feel like we're so lucky in Austin to have, um, like such an abundance of amazing bike shops. And I like, there's like one popping up at least every year or something. No. Um,

Uh, so yeah. Find a bike shop that you love or the bike shop that's nearest to you. Check that out. And of course the social media. Great idea. No. Some great, glad that groups are creating slacks and things like that. Um, Follow a bike ride. If you see it. Oh, yeah. True. Distance. It seems like the answer.

The answer is kind of different for. Like are you visiting Austin for a week? And you're trying to figure out what all rides you can do. Versus did you just move here and you're trying to find your new community. I think if you're here for a week and you're like, I want to get in on. Right. Well, it's amazing. You're listening to this right now.

So that wow. Um, but I would, I would think Valerie's advice is pretty good for that because the, the bike mechanics and other salespeople at the bike shops, they would be aware of like social cycling Austin or whatever, competitive rides. And then if you're looking for your new community, I agree with the.

Like just hop in on a ride because you're going to ride alongside all these people, presumably doing the sort of riding you like. So you can be like, Hey, what other rides do you do? And just kind of. Source it. And the mechanics are probably, you know, going to be able to look at your bike or look at the bank you're interested in or whatever.

And immediately it guests. You know what right. Might be. The right fit for you. Yeah. The group. Character. We'll send you in at least. So your bike, your bike, Oracles, your bike astrology.

I agree with Valerie's advice. A bike shop is really probably going to be the best. Yeah. Uh, just because like what she was saying about like mechanics. And that the folks that are generally know what's going on around town, but that's also your best bet for just encountering random cyclists. I mean, there's been many times where, you know, I've inquired about a ride that's gathering at a bike shop and leaving out, you know, also snacks because we meet at cycle east a lot.

You know, people are coming in and out with their bikes and they're like, oh, where are you guys going? I mean, we've got garnered a lot of like, um, just like bystanders that are just like interested in like what's going on. Um, just by asking, I mean, they see a bunch of people gathering, getting ready to leave. No, that's a great place to do it. You're bound to see somebody with bikes.

Going on over there, you know, all different kinds too, especially at like a shop. Like cycle east where they like, um, service bikes of all different kinds. You know, He used to me. At least with Sunday crews, but we started getting a little bit bigger and we were kind of taking up the whole, like outside space. So we then started meeting up behind it.

Which worked out really well. And we were just talking about this like a week ago. Um, especially since our anniversary is coming up, we're going to try to go back to what we were doing, which was starting from this, especially since the pandemic. We also, that was the other things like with the pandemic and not trying to bring groups, you know, too many people together.

Um, so hopefully now things are subsiding and getting better. Um, during that, uh, we're going to go back to meeting at our regular spots cycle east and east side pedal pushers. Right. Yeah. Great shops. Yeah.

Husson. Well, yeah, I oh. It occurred to me that if someone is visiting well, two things occurred to me. If you're not from here. Then you should just know kind of what clay was saying is the cult, the cycling culture here, whether you're social cycling or competitive rider or anything in between. Is generally people love riding bikes. It makes them happy. And when they learn that you like riding bikes too, they're like, oh my God. We're best wins. Yes, please join. So it's.

Very like you don't have to feel weird about approaching a group of strangers on bikes and asking. Cause. Usually there'll be really happy to talk your ear off or whatever. So. That's kind of the vibe here. And then secondly, if you're just visiting. Um, and you were hoping to rent a bike. The pen tend to kind of mess things up, but I know, I think mellow Johnny still has rode bikes for rent, but are, are you all aware of like where someone could rent road, bike or mountain bike or anything like that?

So the last time I checked there was this site called Spinlister. And I had heard about them years ago, and then I checked. Maybe a month or two ago. And it looked like they were still functioning, but this was like, Uh, VR, like it was like a, like an Airbnb for bicycles. And like you could list your bike on there and you could rent your bike out to an individual. Now, I don't know.

How it works out with like, Liability. Yeah. Cause you know, if I'm running my bike to someone, like I want to make sure they're using. The lock that I have. Yeah, but I don't know how that all works, but the last time I checked, that was still a thing. And it looked like they were pretty affordable. Like you could, you could put your measurements in and the type of bike you want.

Um, I've never done it and I've never known anybody that has done it. So I can't speak to that, but that sounded kind of like an interesting concept to me.

Um, bicycle sport shop. Used to rent bikes. And I'm wondering if Trek continued that I'm not really sure, but. I don't know either. I'm going on, spoke to you folks, uh, rented a bike this week for our Friday happy hour. Um, From the Barton Springs shop. Right on Barton Springs across from Barton Springs.

I think I've seen that spot. Yeah. Yeah. And there's also positive. Towards company. They also rent out bikes. Yeah, I think it's easier if you, if you want to rent, um, like more of a cruiser style or little town bike. Those those, um, Like those rental companies that are oriented to that. I don't think they ever went away. They like, they consider, continue to persist. It's just like,

Oh, go ahead. Sorry, the Barton Springs rental, uh, place loaned out this road, bike. It wasn't like, you know, usually you see a, uh, rental. You know, by going, it's not a road bike, but this was a really nice. Drop ours. Pinterest. So that could be a place to look. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. It sounded like they didn't really even have much choice in the matter they were like here. And it was.

This is your site.
